A look inside the future USS Milwaukee
MARINETTE — More than half a dozen littoral combat ships, or LCS, have been built at Marinette Marine.
The future USS Milwaukee is 389 feet long and can reach speeds of 40 knots – around 46 miles per hour.
Usually, it takes about two years to build a littoral combat ship.
Navy Cmdr. Kendall Bridgewater is in charge of the future USS Milwaukee and around 54 sailors live on board.
“If you want to take a look here we have what’s called a 12-man berthing module. This is an additional berthing module that’s brought on board to allow additional sailors to live,” said Bridgewater.
Eventually, LCS 5 will be home to around 100 sailors.
