Steve served the City of Oshkosh as its Mayor from 2015 to 2019 and prior to that a member of the City Council for five years. During that time he served on the Oshkosh Plan Commission, the Oshkosh Redevelopment Authority and he was a member of the East Central Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission. He continues to serve on the Oshkosh Landmarks Commission.
He is also a board member of the Oshkosh Zoological Society, Oshkosh Healthy Neighborhoods Inc., and Winnebago County Historical and Archeological Society. He earned a LEAN Lead Certificate from the Milwaukee School of Engineering and is a 2012 graduate of Leadership Oshkosh.
His business career includes over 17 years as an advertising and marketing executive with Mercury Marine in Fond du Lac and owner of his own marketing and advertising consulting agency which worked with privately held firms in central Wisconsin.
In 2018 he launched a program called Unity in Community which was initiated to bring together the diverse population of Oshkosh in a family friendly event with the focus on sharing our differences and similarities through food, music and education. Area businesses both large and small were overwhelming supportive of the event. Plans are already underway for UIC 2020.
Steve was presented with the 2019 Martin Luther King Jr., Community Service Award by the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh in January.
