SUMMARY:Cyber Friday: Understanding the DOD Basic Assessment and its Role in Measuring a Company’s Efforts to Secure Sensitive (CUI) Data
DESCRIPTION:DOD’s Basic Assessment captures a snapshot of a company’s System Security Plan and its Plan of Action.  It reflects the efforts at a point in time and provides a baseline\, a starting point for all future efforts. Achieving a perfect score of 110 is the goal and to do so will require companies to commit to this idea\, develop plans\, resources and a solid understanding to the tools and resources needed to complete this journey. \nUntil CMMC v2.0 is formally rolled-out\, and DFARS 252.204-7021 is included in solicitations and contract awards\, companies in the Defense Industrial Base (DIB) must adhere to DFARS 252.204-7020 NIST SP 800-171 DOD ASSESSMENT REQUIREMENTS (NOV 2020) to be eligible for contract award as either a Prime or a subcontractor. \nDon’t be misled by the term “self-assessment.” The DoD Basic self-assessment is neither a stand-alone document\, nor is it the starting point for DoD cyber security compliance. It is most definitely not a requirement to be taken lightly or casually. Rather\, completing this document requires knowledge of the company’s cyber security status and also a sound understanding of DoD’s policies\, requirements and expectations. When completed the summary score should characterize the company’s cyber security activities that are in-place and planned. \n  \nWhy you should attend – \nAttendees will gain information and insight into this DFARS requirement and DoD cyber security requirements. They will be better equipped to determine whether they can undertake completing the assessment in-house or if they should outsource all or specific aspects of the assessment. For companies considering outsourcing this requirement\, this webinar series will help to prepare attendees to develop pertinent scopes of work and evaluate third-party responses. Additionally\, companies that have completed an assessment will be better able to review and evaluate their scoring methodology and overall cyber security program. \n  \nSpeaker: Marc Violante\, Wisconsin Procurement Institute \nThis webinar is eligible for 1 CPE credit. \nView a schedule of all upcoming Cyber Friday webinars. \n\n

SUMMARY:Cyber Friday: Using Security Logs for Cyber Security Program Development and Management
DESCRIPTION:Logs are an essential component of a cyber security program. Logs help to identify malicious activity and they are critical to performing forensic analysis. SUMMARY:Acquisition Hour: Overview of CPARS – How It Works and How To Optimize Your Score
DESCRIPTION:Past Performance will impact future contract awards. \nAs a Federal Contractor it is very important to understand the Contractor Performance Assessment Reporting System (CPARS)\, which collects and maintains Contractor’s Past Performance Information. Past performance is now included in the selection criteria in Government contracts. It is essential for the Contractor to review the comments and ratings for timeliness and accuracy. Contractors should be aware that there may be an opportunity to modify results with the assessing official and possibly shape the performance evaluation. \nUnderstanding the process and management of the CPARS record may help win the next contract you are bidding on. \nSpeaker: Carol Murphy\, Wisconsin Procurement Institute (WPI) \n  \nThis webinar qualifies for 1 CPE credit. \nTo view a schedule of all upcoming webinars\, CLICK HERE. \n\n

SUMMARY:Acquisition Hour: Disaster Contracting
DESCRIPTION:Business opportunities related to disasters are often associated with specific needs such as – bottled water\, blue tarps\, and the removal of debris. In addition to these types of immediate needs there are also business opportunities that are not so easily seen. They are often related to the work that goes into creating contingency contracts or grants that support any number of efforts by eligible parties to plan for and mitigate specific types of natural disasters. Lastly\, there are efforts and support associated with assisting affected communities to “pick up the pieces” and rebuild. This webinar will take a broader view of disasters to explore business and funding opportunities related to all phases of disaster preparation\, response and post disaster federal involvement and resources. \n  \nSpeaker: Marc Violante\, Wisconsin Procurement Institute \nThis webinar is eligible for 1 CPE credit. \nView a schedule of all upcoming Acquisition Hour webinars. \n\n

SUMMARY:Cyber Friday: CMMC - Are You Ready?
DESCRIPTION:The Cyber Friday series will continue with the topic\, “CMMC – Are You Ready” on Friday\, September 9 at 11:00 AM. To register\, please click here. \nYou have your System Security Plan\, a Plan of Action\, and have uploaded your DoD Basic Assessment score and associated information into SPRS. These are the core requirements which underpin both the current DoD Basic Assessment requirements and form the foundation for future CMCC requirements. \nThe major differences between the Basic Self-assessment and CMCC are the level of formality applied to the management and administration of the program and the level of detail and discernment employed in conducting either an internal self-assessment for Level 1 and some Level 2 programs and for third-party assessments for all other Level 2 assessments. In all cases\, DoD Suppliers should review their programs as an external reviewer would. \nThe key questions that this webinar will address are: \n\nWhat does that really mean?\nHow does a company successfully adopt the appropriate mindset?\nWhat documentation is required and what is satisfactory level of detail\n\n\nSpeaker: Marc Violante\, Director\, Federal Market Strategies\, Wisconsin Procurement Institute \nFor the full schedule of the Cyber Friday webinars\, please click here. \nThis webinar is eligible for 1 CPE credit. \n

SUMMARY:Cyber Friday - CMMC: DFARS 252.204-7012; Information Security - Similarities and Differences
DESCRIPTION:The Cyber Friday series will continue with the topic\, “CMMC DRAFS 252.204-7012; Information Security – Similarities and Differences” on Friday\, September 23 at 11:00 AM. To register\, please click here. \nA CMMC L1 or L2 certification does not guarantee compliance with all DFARS 252.204-7012 requirements and does not guarantee that a company will correctly handle other categories of information such as ITAR or JCP. The same is true about ITAR and CMMC. A fully functional ITAR compliance program will not begin to satisfy CMMC requirements. Ultimately\, for each company to correctly handle different categories of information requires that they first know what information they are receiving and handling. Secondly\, each company must have a detailed knowledge and understanding of each of the programs and program requirements. \nThis webinar will provide a top-level overview of the major categories of information and key differences between them. \n\nSpeaker: Marc Violante\, Director\, Federal Market Strategies\, Wisconsin Procurement Institute \nFor the full schedule of the Cyber Friday webinars\, please click here. \nThis webinar is eligible for 1 CPE credit. \n

Additionally\, DoD uses a variety of acquisition vehicles to procure both products and services. SUMMARY:Cyber Friday: Four Key Building Blocks to Use in Developing and Implementing a Comprehensive System Security Plan
DESCRIPTION:The Cyber Friday series will continue with the topic\, “Four Key Building Blocks to Use in Developing and Implementing a Comprehensive System Security Plan” on Friday\, October 7\, at 11:00 AM. To register\, please click here. \nSystem Security Plans (SSP) are not solely a requirement created for NIST 800-171 and the DoD Basic Assessment. The system security plan is fundamental to all cyber security efforts. All companies should take time to develop one and manage it. Unfortunately\, many DoD suppliers view the SSP as a byproduct of conduction the DoD Basic Assessment – essentially a checkmark generated document. \nA SSP should be one of the fundamental organizational documents that helps to guide the company in developing its IT infrastructure and establishing a firm foundation for protecting and securing all types of sensitive information by outlining company and customer driven cybersecurity requirements. This webinar will provide an overview of SSPs\, the type of information used to develop SSPs\, and four key considerations that should be incorporated into the plans. \n\nSpeaker: Marc Violante\, Director\, Federal Market Strategies\, Wisconsin Procurement Institute \nFor the full schedule of the Cyber Friday webinars\, please click here. \nThis webinar is eligible for 1 CPE credit. \n

SUMMARY:DoD Supplier Roadmap Series: Pre-Bid Requirements
DESCRIPTION:The next DoD Supplier Roadmap webinar on “Pre-Bid Requirements” will be held on October 13\, 1:00 PM.  To register\, please click here. \nWelcome to the DoD Supplier Roadmap series. This series is designed to help manufacturers enter and compete in the DoD Marketplace. It is designed to help you understand the DoD market\, the environment\, and most of all the amazing variety of opportunities that are available. The series touches on the key elements of doing business with DoD which range from how to locate opportunities\, identifying customers\, the essential role of past performance and most importantly considerations related to developing a DoD Business Strategy. We hope that you find our DoD Supplier Roadmap series for manufacturers to be informative\, useful and that one resource that can help kick-start your efforts to taking advantage of this market and its opportunities. Anytime you have a question about Federal and/or DoD contracting please call WPI’s main office at 414-270-3600 or email info@wispro.org Our services are always available at no cost and our staff is always ready to provide technical assistance. \nPrior to submitting the first quote or proposal\, a company will need to ensure that it has completed all registrations and has developed and put in place all appropriate compliance program requirements unique to DoD customers. Some customers may have relatively straightforward requirements such as active registration in SAM.gov. Others such as DLA\, which is a major potential customer for manufacturing businesses and parts suppliers\, have several requirements that include registrations\, completion of required training\, submission of specified forms as well as significant efforts related to cybersecurity. The average company can complete these requirements\, but it does take time and awareness of what is required. Knowing a resource such as WPI can help to streamline and accelerate the process. \n\nSpeaker: Marc Violante\, Director\, Federal Market Strategies\, Wisconsin Procurement Institute \nThis webinar is eligible for 1 CPE credit. \nTo view the full schedule of DoD Supplier Roadmap Series webinars\, please click here. \n  \n\n
