SUMMARY:Acquisition Hour: Wage and Hour Laws in our ‘New Normal’
DESCRIPTION:For many employers\, there is significant confusion as to what federal wage and hours laws mean during these COVID-19 times we live in. The times have changed\, but the laws haven’t. So\, it’s crucial that employers understand what federal wage and hour laws mean in these ‘non-normal’ times we live in. What are the rules for employees taking time off for COVID-related reasons? What about meal breaks and travel time? Who is exempt from overtime? Get some answers on these and other issues. This session\, conducted by Corey Walton of the U.S. Department of Labor-Wage & Hour Division\, will help employers connect those wage and hour dots as they navigate through COVID-19 challenges in the workplace. \n  \nSpeakers: \n\nCorey Walton\, Community Outreach and Resource Planning Specialist\, U.S. Department of Labor/Wage & Hour Division\nBen Blanc\, Government Contract Specialist\, Wisconsin Procurement Institute (WPI)\n\nThis webinar qualifies for 1 CPE credit. \nTo view a schedule of all upcoming webinars\, CLICK HERE. \n\n

SUMMARY:Cyber Friday: Information Pathways – Critical Considerations for Cyber Security Plans\, Policies and Procedures
DESCRIPTION:In developing its cyber security program\, a company must consider categories of information\, origination points and recipients – destination points\, how the information will be used and pathways it will be routed along. Gaining this insight requires a company to look beyond the requirement and into the details of its systems and processes. \nUntil CMMC v2.0 is formally rolled-out\, and DFARS 252.204-7021 is included in solicitations and contract awards\, companies in the Defense Industrial Base (DIB) must adhere to DFARS 252.204-7020 NIST SP 800-171 DOD ASSESSMENT REQUIREMENTS (NOV 2020) to be eligible for contract award as either a Prime or a subcontractor. \nDon’t be misled by the term “self-assessment.” The DoD Basic self-assessment is neither a stand-alone document\, nor is it the starting point for DoD cyber security compliance. It is most definitely not a requirement to be taken lightly or casually. Rather\, completing this document requires knowledge of the company’s cyber security status and also a sound understanding of DoD’s policies\, requirements and expectations. When completed the summary score should characterize the company’s cyber security activities that are in-place and planned. \n  \nWhy you should attend – \nAttendees will gain information and insight into this DFARS requirement and DoD cyber security requirements. They will be better equipped to determine whether they can undertake completing the assessment in-house or if they should outsource all or specific aspects of the assessment. For companies considering outsourcing this requirement\, this webinar series will help to prepare attendees to develop pertinent scopes of work and evaluate third-party responses. Additionally\, companies that have completed an assessment will be better able to review and evaluate their scoring methodology and overall cyber security program. \n  \nSpeaker: Marc Violante\, Wisconsin Procurement Institute \nThis webinar is eligible for 1 CPE credit. \nView a schedule of all upcoming Cyber Friday webinars. \n\n

SUMMARY:Acquisition Hour: The Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) Program: Certification\, Benefits and Requirements
DESCRIPTION:In Wisconsin\, a number of local government entities including Milwaukee County\, WisDOT\, MMSD\, Dane County and the City of Madison\, require participation from Disadvantaged Business Enterprises in their procurement process. Both Woman owned and Minority owned businesses can potentially qualify for this program. \nThe Unified Certification Program (UCP) allows applicants for the Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) program to apply only once for a DBE certification that will be honored by all recipients in the state. In Wisconsin\, a number of local government entities including Milwaukee County\, WisDOT\, MMSD\, Dane County and the City of Madison\, require participation from Disadvantaged Business Enterprises in their procurement process. Wisconsin recognizes the Unified Certification Program of the Wisconsin of Department of Transportation Office of Business Opportunity and Equity Compliance (OBOEC). If a business is DBE certified through OBOEC\, City of Madison\, County of Dane\, or County of Milwaukee\, then they can submit documentation of their DBE Certification\, complete a Substantially Equivalent Application (SEA)\, and become MBE\, WBE\, or DVB Certified with the State of Wisconsin. \nThe DBE program targets Socially and Economically Disadvantaged firms.  Under the DBE program\, woman owned businesses are considered “disadvantaged”. \nThis certification can be of significant advantage for firms working with government entities that utilize the DBE program.  For example\, the DBE program sets aside part of federal highway and transit funds with persons who qualify as disadvantaged small business operators. \nFor the current fiscal year\, the goals were calculated at 12.32% for Federal Highway\, 6.04% for Airport Construction project and 1.10% for Transit. WisDOT invests $750 million annually in federal and state dollars for highway\, airport and transit projects. These funds translate into millions of dollars in transportation-related contracts and project work for DBE firms. \nIn this webinar you will learn about: \n\nEligibility requirements\nApplication process\nWhich government entities use the DBE\nLeveraging your DBE certification\n\n  \nSpeaker: Tru Mwololo\, Wisconsin Procurement Institute (WPI) \nTo view a schedule of all upcoming webinars\, CLICK HERE. \n\n

SUMMARY:Acquisition Hour: Responding to Sources Sought Request and Preparing Your Capabilities Statement
DESCRIPTION:A Sources Sought notice is a market research tool that Contracting Officers use to determine the availability of specific capabilities in the marketplace.  Sources Sought notices are also used to determine if there are enough qualified small businesses able to perform to potentially set aside the specific requirement. These Sources Sought are posted in SAM.gov and provide businesses a significant opportunity to present their qualifications and capabilities to support a specific requirement. \nAlong with Sources Sought\, this session will discuss developing a targeted Capabilities Statement to concisely show your business’s capability to meet the government or prime contractor’s specific needs and requirements. \nWell prepared responses to a Sources Sought notice and development of a focused Capabilities Statement are critical to successful review by the Government agency – especially in our current dynamic contracting environment. \nThis webinar will cover: \n\nWhat are Sources Sought Notices (SSNs) and Requests for Information (RFIs)\nLocating SSNs and RFIs\nPreparing a focused response to SSNs and RFIs\nHow to develop a targeted and effective Capability Statement\n\n  \nSpeakers: \n\nCarol Murphy\, Government Contract Specialist\, Wisconsin Procurement Institute (WPI)\nMark Dennis\, Government Contract Specialist\, Wisconsin Procurement Institute (WPI)\n\nThis webinar is eligible for 1 CPE credit. \nTo view a schedule of all upcoming webinars\, CLICK HERE. \n\n

SUMMARY:Cyber Friday: Vetting Subcontractors - Considerations for both Primes and Subs
DESCRIPTION:Quality\, price\, and on-time performance remain important factors to consider when identifying and selecting subcontractors and suppliers. However\, changes to cybersecurity requirements have established new regulations and\, consequently\, concerns that must be addressed. Awareness is the first requirement. Companies need to know about these requirements. Then conversations need to be open\, frank and recurring with subcontractors and suppliers. Vetting needs to include all of the information\, processes and procedures used to get to know members of your supply chain and to ensure that they are eligible from a regulatory standpoint. These efforts should include a thorough review of first tier supply chain members but also to understanding how mandatory requirements will be “flowed down\,” managed and tracked at sub-recipient levels. \n  \nSpeaker: Marc Violante\, Wisconsin Procurement Institute \n  \nThis webinar is eligible for 1 CPE credit. \nView a schedule of all upcoming Cyber Friday webinars. \n\n

SUMMARY:Cyber Friday: Information Security - Security Beyond Cyber
DESCRIPTION:Today\, companies deal with emails\, prints\, models\, algorithms\, computer code\, and more. Employees meet\, discuss and converse about opportunities and projects. For companies in the defense space\, much of the information that they work with is sensitive or controlled unclassified information (CUI). No matter the medium\, this type of information needs to be safeguarded and protected from unauthorized disclosure\, inadvertent sharing\, or outright theft. Some companies state that they have full development systems which are “air tight.” Others\, who have been awarded a DOD contract have a rudimentary system in place. This webinar will provide a broad overview of information security\, DOD requirements\, references and resources to use. \n  \nSpeaker: Marc Violante\, Wisconsin Procurement Institute \n  \nThis webinar is eligible for 1 CPE credit. \nView a schedule of all upcoming Cyber Friday webinars. \n\n

SUMMARY:Cyber Friday: Design and use of Exercises to test and strengthen your security plans and procedures
DESCRIPTION:Cybersecurity plans and processes will often have limitations and are not absolute in their ability to protect. If a cyber incident occurs\, are you ready? Do key players know their roles\, their authority and required actions? Are external resources such as your Managed Services provider\, IT consultant or legal counsel familiar with the company and all of the relevant processes\, policies\, staff\, and equipment? When the network ceases to function\, it is too late! You are behind the proverbial “eight ball” and likely in for a very difficult recovery. This webinar will explore the value of exercises in not only strengthening your cybersecurity plans but also in developing response capabilities to minimize the impact of a cyber incident and ease the efforts needed to return to normal operations. \n  \nSpeaker: Marc Violante\, Wisconsin Procurement Institute \n  \nThis webinar is eligible for 1 CPE credit. \nView a schedule of all upcoming Cyber Friday webinars. \n\n
