LCS Wichita keel laid at Marinette Marine

As the long term future of Navy ship building at Marinette Marine  remains up in the air, there was cause for celebration Monday afternoon.

Officials with the U.S. Navy, Lockheed Martin, and Marinette Marine took part in the keel laying ceremony of the Wichita, which will be the seventh LCS built at Marinette Marine and the 13th in the class. The ceremony signifies that the hull of the future USS Wichita is ready for construction.

The ship’s sponsor Mrs. Kate Lehrer’s signature was welded to authenticate the keel of the ship.

Local leaders of the LCS program believe moving forward with the Wichita continues to build their credibility with the Navy.
