Spending bill includes Navy ships for Marinette Marine

A bill moving through Congress this week includes funding for three additional U.S. Navy Littoral Combat Ships, and a Wisconsin senator said Wednesday she will fight for a fourth.

Sen. Tammy Baldwin, D-Madison, said the National Defense Authorization Act includes $1.4 billion for three more of the Navy ships. Half of the ships in the program are being built by Marinette Marine Corp. in Marinette.

While the current congressional request includes three ships, one more than was proposed in the original House bill, Baldwin said she will work to secure approval of a fourth ship as part of the package request.
