Cyber Thursday:  Understanding CUI and the FAR CUI Rule

Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) sits at the center of federal cybersecurity requirements, yet many contractors are still unsure what it is, how to recognize it, or what obligations come with it. This session breaks down the CUI program from the ground up, covering how CUI is defined, how it is marked and categorized, and how it differs from Federal Contract Information (FCI). We will then walk through the proposed FAR CUI Rule, which would extend CUI safeguarding and incident reporting requirements beyond defense contractors to suppliers across the entire federal marketplace. Attendees will learn what the rule would require, how its clauses would flow down to subcontractors, and where it stands in the rulemaking process.
