Contract Closeout is a real eventuality for all government contracts. Unlike commercial business, which may last indefinitely over years or even decades, a contract has a defined beginning and end.  Future government business awards may be affected by how well a contract is concluded, without loose ends. Contract managers and administrators  need to remain aware of this closure and make timely preparations.

This presentation will cover key events along the trajectory of a three-year contract, illustrating how good record keeping and target dates can be planned in advance to close out a contract successfully.  Some of these events include internal audits, delivery schedules, invoicing and payment tracking, and timely disposition of government furnished materials.

Mark Dennis is a Certified Federal Contract Manager based in western Wisconsin.  He has managed contract administration for a global construction equipment firm, as well as consulted for dealerships and a medical provider contractor.  His government customers have included the U.S. Army Tank, Armament and Automotive Command, The National Guard Bureau, and the Defense Logistics Agency.
