The Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) establishes minimum wage, overtime pay, record keeping, and child labor standards affecting full-time and part-time workers in the private sector and in Federal, State, and local governments. The Department of Labor administers and enforces the FLSA. This session will provide attendees with an overview of the requirements of the ACT to assist employers in maintaining compliance.
Topics covered will include:
- The difference between an ‘employee’ and an ‘independent contractor’
- Exemption from overtime
- Payment of meal breaks
- Payment of travel time
- Other issues impacting record keeping and payment
