The U.S. Forest Service spent over $1 Billion on contracting in Fiscal Year 2013. USFS manages over 193 million acres of national forest. Within the Northern Michigan and Northern Wisconsin, there are four national forests: Hiawatha National Forest –Gladstone, MI, Huron-Manistee National Forest – Cadillac, MI, Ottawa National Forest – Ironwood, MI, Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest – Park Falls and Rhinelander, WI
In fiscal year (FY) 2014, the National Park Service (NPS) spent over $650 Million on contracting. Almost every American city and town claims a little bit of the National Park Service. The NPS builds trails and playgrounds, return historic buildings to productive use, revitalize neighborhoods, protect watersheds, recognize and promote local history, and introduce the next generation to stewardship opportunities. In Wisconsin, there are 2 national parks, 2,293 National Register of Historic Places Listings, 18 National Natural Landmarks, 42 National Historic Landmarks and more. The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs spends over $17 billion annually. The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) operates a nationwide system of hospitals, clinics, Veterans Integrated Service Networks (VISN), data processing centers, and National Cemeteries which require a broad spectrum of goods and services. The VA purchases these goods and services on a national, regional, and local level. So no matter how large or small your business is, VA is a potential customer.
