Defense Innovation Unit Launches Blue Manufacturing Initiative to Strengthen U.S. Supply Chain for Speed and Scale

Washington, DC (April 3, 2025) – For nearly a decade, the Defense Innovation Unit (DIU) has identified, prototyped and scaled commercial technologies that deliver advantages to warfighters. To meet current and future threats, the Department of Defense must rethink the current state of manufacturing, which is fragmented and often dependent on a traditional supply chain with limited capacity and – in many cases – a reliance on our adversaries for key components.
The first step in this initiative is to create the Blue Manufacturing Marketplace to establish a pre-vetted catalog of trusted advanced manufacturing companies capable of scaling defense technology production.

Department of Defense Selects Eligible Companies for the Advanced Nuclear Power for Installations Program

Mountain View, CA (April 10, 2025) – To ensure U.S. energy dominance, the Defense Innovation Unit (DIU), with the Department of the Army and the Department of the Air Force, launched the Advanced Nuclear Power for Installations (ANPI) program. First announced in summer 2024, the program will allow for the design and build of fixed on-site microreactor nuclear power systems on select military installations to support global operations across land, air, sea, space, and cyberspace. The Department of Defense team selected eight companies to be eligible to demonstrate the ability to deliver compliant, safe, secure, and reliable nuclear power.
